Feeling Fit

Last night was my first night with my personal trainer. I didn't know what to expect when I got to the gym but I'm so glad I didn't back out! It was WONDERFUL! We started off by completing the obligatory paperwork then she took my weight, height and body measurements. Talk about embarassing....I don't share those numbers with anyone and then to have a total stranger know all stuff and chart it so we can keep track of my progress.....it was a little intimidating! I'm thinking to myself "ok, we will stretch and then start out gently." I was sure of it!! WRONG! On to the treadmill we went and there was no mercy....she had me doing 2 minutes of walking and a minute of sprinting. A minute of sprinting was a VERY LONG minute! Who knew 60 seconds could last so long. And then we were on this machine called the "Arc Trainer" it's a fancy, schmancy eliptical trainer. I hop on and tell her how easy this and it's not so bad. Not the right thing to say to your trainer! Up goes the resistance and she pushed me to get to 10 METS and stay there! I still have no idea what a MET is but I know it was killing me to stay at 10 consistently. We did a great ab workout and some lunges. I literally thought I was going to throw up and I had to take a serious time-out! We wound down our workout with some stretches and she sent me on my way.

We have plans to meet 3 times a week for the next 6 months. I've made a pretty serious committment to get fit and I'm hoping it works!! I'm sure it will, my short term goal is to run a 5k on July 10th.....here's hoping!

The rest of my life is good too. Kids are getting endoftheschoolyear-itis!! Which means my grocery bill will increase because they'll be home everyday eating anything and everything they can get their hands on! Actually, we'll find out Monday whether or not they will be home for the summer.

Their dad lives in the Upper Peninsula and they are supposed to spend 7 weeks of their summer vacation with him. They leave on June 22 and come home on August 10. Their whole summer is wasted in the U.P. and they hate it! So this year, they decided they don't want to go, so I've petitioned the Friend of the Court to have the parenting time changed and we have a hearing on Monday, May 17th. We are seriously hoping things go in our favor and they are allowed to spend the summer at home where they are most comfortable!

Imagine only seeing your father twice per year and one of those two times is 7 weeks long and you're in a VERY small house with 4 step-siblings who are all under the age of 8, a crazy step-mom who has a boyfriend that comes over at night when Dad is gone to work! Yes folks....these things really happen!!

My oldest daughter graduates high school at the end of the month and I can hardly believe it! She informed me this morning that she has a two hour detention after school today! I laughed....I don't think this is the reaction she expected from me. I think she thought I was going to be very upset and yell at her. Nope. Why bother? Like I said to her "I guess if you've made it this far in your school career and you're two weeks from graduation and you just now get into some trouble....it's no big deal." She plans on utilizing her detention time wisely I'm sure!

The next 5 weekends are booked with parties, proms, 5k's, basketball tournaments....we aren't lacking in the plans or events portion of our lives, that's for sure.

So, keep your fingers crossed that I continue to enjoy my time at the gym developing a fitter (is that even a word?) me, we have a successful court hearing on Monday, this is the last of my daughter's detentions and all our plans come together successfully!

Have a blessed day!
